Frenzel wins 2nd Nordic combined World Cup event in 2 days

SEEFELD, Austria (AP) Eric Frenzel of Germany won his second Nordic combined event in two days to go top of the overall World Cup standings on Saturday.

The Olympic champion beat Akito Watabe of Japan in a similar scenario to Friday's race.

Frenzel, who was runner-up to Watabe after the ski jump, finished the 10-kilometer cross country in 23 minutes, 11.5 seconds, beating Watabe by 24.9 seconds.

Fabian Riessle came 1:27.7 back in third, and lost the overall lead to his German teammate.

It was the second stage of the Nordic Combined Triple, which adds the results of all three competitions this weekend with the overall winner earning double World Cup points.

The final event, with a 15K cross country race, is scheduled for Sunday.
