Japanese win provisional AC World Series race in New York

NEW YORK (AP) With light wind affecting the schedule, SoftBank Team Japan won a provisional race Saturday at the America's Cup World Series regatta on the Hudson River.

The race will only be scored if it is needed for inclusion in the international broadcast Sunday.

Due to light wind, the race didn't make the broadcast window. However, local authorities gave regatta officials an extra half hour to sail the race.

It was the first America's Cup-related racing in New York in 96 years. The America's Cup World Series regattas are warmups for the 2017 America's Cup in Bermuda.

Organizers expect much better wind for Sunday.

Following SoftBank Team Japan were Artemis Racing, Groupama Team France, Oracle Team USA, Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing and overall series leader Emirates Team New Zealand.
