Pro wrestler Rhyno to become Michigan legislator
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) Professional wrestler Rhyno has won a seat in the Michigan Legislature.
Dearborn Republican Terrance Guido Gerin defeated Democrat Abdullah Hammoud, a 26-year-old health care consultant, in Tuesday's election for an open state House district. The 41-year-old, who prefers the name ''Rhino,'' currently appears on World Wrestling Entertainment's ''Smackdown Live.''
His campaign website says Gerin is a ''politician by day'' and a ''professional wrestler by night.'' He says he believes in limited government and will focus on fixing Michigan's crumbling roads and boosting state revenue-sharing to cities such as Dearborn.
He urged voters in the Democratic-heavy district east of Detroit to ''be a Rhino-Democrat.''
Gerin will be paid nearly $72,000 a year as a lawmaker.
