Michigan State suspends guard Eron Harris indefinitely after arrest
Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo suspended guard Eron Harris indefinitely, the school announced Tuesday, in the wake of an arrest earlier this month the Lansing State Journalreported was related to drunk driving.
According to the report, Harris was arrested in the early morning hours of July 1, just hours after playing in a Pro-Am summer league game.
He faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and refusing a preliminary breath test, according to court records cited by the Journal. The former charge carries a maximum sentence of 93 days in jail as well as a fine.
“Eron Harris has been suspended indefinitely from all basketball related activities,” Izzo said in statement the Journal printed Tuesday night.

“We hold our student-athletes to high standards, and the decisions that Eron made were irresponsible and unacceptable. Actions have consequences, and Eron must face those consequences in the legal system, in the court of public opinion, and within the program. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken as the legal system runs its course.”
Harris transferred to Michigan State from West Virginia following the 2013–14 season. The rising junior averaged 17.2 points per game for the Mountaineers two seasons ago and shot 42.2 percent from three-point-range.
Harris was in charge of the Spartans' scout team before games last season while he sat out the customary year for undergraduate transfers. Izzo told the Detroit News in February he was impressed with Harris' ability and dedication to the task. “Whatever we ask him to do he's done,” Izzo said.
