New Mexico assistant Jason Lenzmeier leaves program
New Mexico run game coordinator and offensive line coach Jason Lenzmeier has left his position with the Lobos, according to a source.
Reasons for Lenzmeier’s departure were not immediately clear.
Lenzmeier spent the past four season at New Mexico, during which time the Lobos have ranked ninth (2015), fifth (2014), fourth (2013) and fifth (2012) in the country in rushing yards per game. Last year New Mexico tied a school record with 42 rushing touchdowns.
Lenzmeier came to New Mexico after coaching New Mexico State’s offensive line from 2009–11. He had an earlier three-year stint with New Mexico from 2006–08, serving as a graduate assistant in 2006 before coaching the offensive line in 2007 and 2008.
The Frisco, Texas, native was a four-year starter on the Lobos’ offensive line from 2000–03 and earned a first-team All-Mountain West selection in 2003. He spent the 2004 season with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams.
New Mexico went 7–6 last season, earning a berth in the New Mexico Bowl, the program’s first bowl berth since 2007. The Lobos are 18–32 in four seasons under coach Bob Davie.
