There have been many great sports movies in American cinema. And while debates to determine the best boxing movie (Rocky or Raging Bull?) or best football movie (Any Given Sunday? The Longest Yard? Rudy?) have become a never-ending argument, there is no such controversy with poker movies. Everyone who's remotely interested in the game knows Rounders is, by a mile, the greatest (and most accurate) poker movie ever made.
Well, we may finally be getting a sequel to Rounders.
In an interview with Poker News to promote their latest poker movie Runner Runner (which stars Justin Timberlake and
Batman Ben Affleck), screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman said:
We do, however, have the story for Rounders II worked out, and all the actors and the director of the first film are ready to come do it. It's a matter of the companies who control the rights getting behind it and allowing it to happen. That Rounders hasn't already spawned a sequel (or several) is amazing, considering the easy setup (the main character of Rounders, played by Matt Damon, leaves for Vegas to try his hand at the World Series of Poker at the end of the film) and the greatly increased interest level in poker since the original came out.
