The Odds of the 76ers Ending the Season on a 36-Game Losing Streak are Comically Low

The 76ers are not a good basketball team -- anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the NBA would tell you that. But the extent of their badness, at least according to Las Vegas, will probably surprise you.

According to Bovada (via CSN Philly), the odds that the 76ers will end the season on a 36-game losing streak are currently 3/1. The team is 3-25 since Jan. 4 and likely won't be favored in any of their remaining games, but with 21 games remaining (the team has already lost 15 straight) in the regular season, in order to hit this bet you'd have to be assuming that Philly will surpass the longest losing streak in NBA history (26 by the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers) by 10 games.

You can also get 1/5 odds that the 76ers will win another game this season... but that doesn't seem like such a good bet.

During their current 15-game losing streak, the 76ers have lost 11 games by double-digits, so they certainly have the lack of firepower to pull off the remarkable feat of losing 21 more games in a row. Bill Simmons (in many words) explained why he believes there's a chance it could happen. And just the other day their head coach Brett Brown openly questioned if the team would win another game. But I just can't imagine anyone getting much satisfaction out of rooting for a team to set an NBA record for futility... unless they're from Pittsburgh.
