Now we know why Hawks GM Danny Ferry didn't want to make the playoffs.
With all the talk about tanking this season, the Cavaliers won the NBA draft lottery for the third time in four years after having only a 1.7 percent chance of doing so.
Meanwhile the Hawks finished with a losing record on the season, yet made the dumb mistake of making the playoffs, which eliminated them from lottery contention. Atlanta could learn a thing or two (or three) from Cleveland about the advantages of futility.
