Military dad surprises son by dressing as Royals catcher

Austin Sides, 11, threw out the first pitch at Tuesday night's Royals game at Kauffman Stadium against the Dodgers.

He believed he was tossing the pitch to one of the Royals' catchers, but really it was his father, Air Force Major Robert Sides, perfectly disguised. The elder Sides had been stationed in Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait since last June.

Austin was so happy to see his dad that he began to cry.

"I almost lost it myself," Robert Sides said. "I grew up a pitcher, throwing with my dad, and to be able to do this with my son after being gone all year, Facetime only goes so far. You need the contact and I miss that so much."
