The Maryland women's basketball team came into the season with high expectations, and coach Brenda Frese wanted to make sure winning did not get stale for her players, so she took a tip from a fellow coach and added some postgame awards.
According to the Washington Post, after every game the Terrapins are awarded a variety of "trophies," ranging from a bottle of Windex for the player with the most rebounds, to a megaphone for the game's most vocal player.
Frese told The Post the unconventional awards help players focus on what they did well, and enjoy the team's success.
“When you work so hard, it’s about just being able to celebrate in the moment,” Frese said. “It’s nice to be able to recognize the moment, and kind of celebrate — in that moment — the greatness of what they’re doing on the court.”
Maryland will go up against 23-point favorite UConn on Sunday for a chance to advance to the national championship game.
