White Sox Go Old School

The White Sox got in the Throwback Thursday spirit in a big way this week, sporting a disco era uniform with navy and white shirts untucked below their waists. The uniforms looked great (though a tailor wouldn't have hurt) and the Sox came away with a 4-2 victory. Would it have killed them to wear the matching shorts?

Popular Mechanics vs. Utah Football

Forget Giants-Cowboys or Cardinals-Cubs, there's a new sports rivalry in town and it's between Popular Mechanics and Utah football. In its September calendar, the magazine declared Michigan's matchup against Utah next Thursday a "cupcake game." Keep in mind that Michigan went 5-7 last year while Utah was 9-4, including a 26-10 victory over the Wolverines. The magazine tried to make things right by sending the school cupcakes but the damage has been done.

When Athletics and Academics Collide

Very interesting story in the Wall Street Journal Thursday about the public communication major at Auburn. Back in 2013, the university’s Curriculum Review Committee concluded that the major added very little to the school’s academic mission and voted to eliminate it. As it turns out, nearly all of the top players on the Auburn football team majored in public communication. You can probably figure out how this story ends.

Oral History of the Saints, Superdome

Before Roger Goodell became a commissioner embroiled in scandal after scandal, he was instrumental in getting the Saints back to the Superdome just one year after Hurricane Katrina ravished New Orleans. Goodell, along with former Saints Deuce McAlister and Joe Horn, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and many more share their memories of a displaced season and the revival of the Superdome in this riveting oral history.
