Interactive graphic: NFL Week 2 injuries by body part

NFL Week 2 injuries by body part.

Week 2 of the NFL season was notable not only for the number of injuries, but also for the significant ones sustained by star players. Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Vontae Davis and Tony Romo are just a few of the big names on this week’s injury list.

Here’s every injury we could find from Week 2 games, separated by body part. (We miss anything? Shoot us an email.)

The number of head injuries dropped this week, from nine to only two. Ankles and knees remain a particularly sore spot for NFL players. Week 1 had 15 combined injuries in the two areas. In Week 2, players sustained 17 injuries to their ankles and knees. And for the second straight week, we had five ankle and hamstring injuries.

Quarterbacks seem to be taking the worst damage in their upper body, with Romo, Brees and Stafford injuring their collarbone, shoulder and ribs, respectively.

One more update: We added Dominique Easley’s hip injury to Week 1, thanks to an email submission from Giovanni Cantalupo. That brings our total injury count for Week 1 to 47. The Week 2 total is 34.
