Francisco Cervelli was pulled from Friday's game vs. Toronto after a foul tip hit his right hand.

NEW YORK -- Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli has left New York's game against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night after being hit on the right hand by a foul tip with the fifth pitch of the first inning.

Cervelli was holding his throwing hand just above his knee when Rajai Davis fouled a pitch from Ivan Nova straight back. Cervelli immediately looked at his hand and flexed it several times.

Manager Joe Girardi and a trainer checked out Cervelli before Girardi waved to the bullpen for backup catcher Chris Stewart.

Cervelli has gotten off to a solid start, hitting .269 with three homers and eight RBIs, and has earned most of the playing time behind the plate this season.
