Jason Giambi has collected only 10 at-bats for the Indians this season due to injuries.

CLEVELAND -- The Indians have placed designated hitter Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf muscle.

Giambi was removed from Saturday night's game against the Chicago White Sox after grounding into a double play in the fourth inning. Giambi began the season on the disabled list after breaking a rib during training camp and the 43-year-old is 0-for-10 this season.

Before Monday's game against Minnesota, the Indians also activated catcher Yan Gomes from the paternity leave list. He's in the starting lineup.

Center fielder Michael Bourn is missing his second game in a row with a tight hamstring. The Indians are taking a cautious approach with Bourn, who underwent surgery on the hamstring in October and missed time earlier this season.

Indians manager Terry Francona said the team's medical staff is hoping Bourn is only dealing with some scar tissue.
