The Seattle Mariners on Friday sent first baseman Justin Smoak down to Triple A affiliate Tacoma, according to Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune.

Smoak, who missed most of June after straining his quadriceps, was batting just .208 with seven home runs and 29 RBI in 63 games this season. Earlier Friday, the Mariners activated designated hitter Corey Hart from the 15-day disabled list.

The Mariners trail the Athletics by five games in the American League West and hold the second wild card spot.
