Starling Marte activated from concussion DL

PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte was activated from the seven-day concussion disabled list Tuesday and third baseman Pedro Alvarez was placed on the bereavement list.

Marte had been out since July 22. He is hitting .255 with five home runs and 21 stolen bases in 86 games.

Alvarez, who has lost his spot in the lineup because of a throwing problem, may miss up to three games under major league rules.
