Pirates' Hurdle optimistic Andrew McCutchen will be activated Tuesday

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday he's optimistic outfielder Andrew McCutchen will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday. McCutchen was placed on the 15-day DL on Aug. 11, retroactive to Aug. 4, with a rib injury.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday he's optimistic outfielder Andrew McCutchen will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Tom Singer.

McCutchen was placed on the 15-day DL on Aug. 11, retroactive to Aug. 4, with a rib injury. Tuesday is the first day the 27-year-old is eligible to be activated.

The outfielder last played on Aug. 3, when he was forced to exit a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after experiencing discomfort in his left side.

The reigning National League MVP, McCutchen was hitting .311 with a .947 OPS and 17 home runs before the injury.

The Pirates entered Monday at 64-60, 1.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants for the second NL Wild Card.
