Royals sign veteran P Ryan Madson to minor league contract
The Kansas City Royals have signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Madson to a minor league contract, according to the Associated Press.
Madson last pitched in the majors in 2011 while with the Philadelphia Phillies. He went 4-2 with a 2.37 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 32 saves in 60 2/3 innings.

The 34-year-old spent nine years with the Phillies before signing with the Cincinnati Reds. He underwent Tommy John surgery in spring 2012 and attempted a comeback with the Los Angeles Angels last season, but hurt his elbow again after one start at Single-A.
In his career, Madson is 47-30 with a 3.59 ERA and 547 strikeouts in 630 innings. He was drafted in the ninth-round by Philadelphia in 1998 and won a World Series with the organization in 2008.
