Alex Rodriguez will make spring training debut Wednesday

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be the DH in Wednesday's spring training home opener, manager Joe Girardi said, according to Newsday's Erik Boland

Rodriguez will not play in the team's first spring training game on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to ESPN.com's Wallace Matthews.

[daily_cut.new york yankees]Rodriguez participated in the Yankees' intra-squad scrimmage on Monday afternoon. The players faced pitching machines for six innings. Rodriguez did not play the field and went 0-2 with a groundout and a flyout.

The last MLB game Rodriguez played was on Sept. 25, 2013. He was suspended for the entire 2014 season due to his use of performance enhancing drugs as well as his role in the Biogenesis scandal. 

Rodriguez is expected to play primarily as a DH this season.
