The Detroit Tigers placed veteran pitcher Justin Verlander on the 15-day disabled list with a right triceps strain, the team announced Wednesday.
The move was made retroactive to March 29, two days after Verlander left the Tigers' spring training game in the third inning with cramps in his right triceps.
Pitcher Kyle Lobstein has been recalled from Triple A and will start Sunday against the Indians.
This is the first career DL stint for Verlander, now in his 11th season with Detroit. In 298 career games, Verlander has gone 152-89 with six All-Star appearances. In 2011, he won the AL Cy Young and MVP awards.
Verlander went 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA in 2014.
