Mets say they are bringing up catcher Johnny Monell

NEW YORK (AP) The Mets say they plan to put catcher Johnny Monell on the major league roster before Tuesday night's game against Baltimore.

Monell is not on the 40-man roster, so the Mets will have to open a spot on it when they select his contract from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Unless there is a move, he would become the third catcher along with Anthony Recker and Kevin Plawecki while starter Travis d'Arnaud is on the disabled list after breaking a finger April 20. Monell is hitting .397 with four homers and 15 RBIs at Las Vegas.

Also, Texas returned right-hander Logan Verrett to the Mets, who sent him outright to Las Vegas. The 25-year-old was taken by Baltimore in the winter meeting draft and claimed by the Rangers. He was 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four games and nine innings for Texas, which designated him for assignment April 24.
