New York Mets acquire reliever Tyler Clippard from Oakland A’s
The New York Mets have acquired relief pitcher Tyler Clippard from the Oakland Athletics, the team announced Monday. The Mets also acquire cash in the trade and send minor-league pitcher Casey Meisner to Oakland.
Clippard, 30, has a 2.79 ERA this season and converted 17 of his 21 save opportunities while filling in for injured closer Sean Doolittle.
The Mets currently have the sixth-best bullpen ERA in the majors and their relievers are holding opponents to a .213 batting average, the third-best in the majors. They are two games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the NL East and 4 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot.
Meisner was a third-round pick in 2013 and has a 2.35 ERA in 18 Class A starts this season. He had reportedly been a popular trade target. Newsday’s Marc Carig reports the Milwaukee Brewers were interested in acquiring Meisner as part of a trade for Gerardo Parra.
Clippard is the third player acquired by the Mets since Friday. New York also dealt forBraves infielders Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson on Friday.
