The Detroit Tigersannounced Friday they have activated Miguel Cabrera from the disabled list. He will bat third in Friday's game against the Houston Astros.

The two-time MVP first baseman spent more than a month sidelined with a Grade 3 left calf strain. Cabrera has been taking batting practice and working out with the team over the past couple of weeks after suffering his injury July 3. Detroit has gone 15-20 over that stretch.

Detroit originally projected Cabrera to miss 6-8 weeks. His Aug. 14 return will bring him back on the shorter end of the timetable. The Tigers optioned lefthander Kyle Ryan to Triple A Toledo in a corresponding move.

Cabrera, 32, has hit .350 this season with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. He led the AL in batting average and on-base percentage at the time he was placed on the DL.
