Jacob deGrom willing to discuss long-term deal with Mets
Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom told the New York Post Wednesday that he is willing to discuss signing a long-term contract with the team before he becomes a free agent in 2021.
“I’m a little bit older, so I might be more willing to do something like that,” deGrom told the Post. “You just have to look at what is fair so both sides get a decent deal. It’s something I’d have to look into and make sure I agree with it.”
DeGrom, 27, was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2014 and an All-Star in 2015. He is the oldest of the Mets’ celebrated group of young pitchers and won’t be eligible for free agency until he is 32. He will be eligible for salary arbitration in 2018.

DeGrom made 30 starts last season and had a 2.54 ERA in 191 innings pitched. He was tied for eighth in the NL with 205 strikeouts.
He had a 2.88 ERA in the playoffs but allowed four runs in five innings in the Mets’ loss to the Royals in Game 2 of the World Series.
