Suns to Sign Terrence Ross Following Buyout by Magic, per Report
The Suns plan to sign veteran guard Terrence Ross after he finalizes a contract buyout with the Magic, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Phoenix was among a few franchises, including the Mavericks, that had expressed interest in Ross after Wojnarowski first reported that the 32-year-old was seeking a buyout from Orlando. Wojnarowski went as far as to call Dallas the “frontrunner” to land Ross, but Suns owner Mat Ishbia and coach Monty Williams reportedly made a push for the veteran Saturday and were successful.
Ross has yet to officially receive his buyout from the Magic, but so long as he’s able to do so by March 1, he can become eligible for Phoenix’s playoff roster.
Ross has spent the better part of the last seven seasons in Orlando, after beginning his career with the Raptors, and has averaged eight points per game off the bench for the Magic during the 2022–23 campaign. Most importantly, he’s shot 38.1 percent on 3.8 three-point attempts per game, which will make him a valuable rotation piece to accommodate stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
The Suns made the most aggressive, all-in move ahead of last week’s trade deadline, acquiring Durant and T.J. Warren in a blockbuster trade with the Nets. Phoenix gave up Cameron Johnson, Mikal Bridges and Jae Crowder–along with four first-round draft picks–in the deal, leaving them with a need for depth.
