Bulls Waive Veteran Guard Goran Dragic
The Bulls announced Tuesday that they are waiving veteran point guard Goran Dragić. The 36-year-old was an All Star back in 2018 while with the Heat.
Dragić is averaging 6.1 points and 2.7 assists in approximately 15 minutes per game for Chicago this season—a far cry of what he used to be just a couple of seasons ago. He’s also shooting 43% from the field and 35% from behind the arc.
Before coming to the United States, Dragić played in Slovenia and Spain and eventually entered the 2008 NBA draft where he was selected by the Suns in the second round. He was traded to the Rockets in 2011 but returned to Phoenix as a free agent in 2012 as a much improved player.
He became a solid starter and went on to be traded to Miami in 2015 where he thrived. He averaged over 20 points a game during the 2016–17 season and earned his first and only All Star appearance the next year—finishing the season averaging 17.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
He has bounced around the last two years, playing for both the Raptors and Nets before eventually signing with the Bulls in August. He isn’t the player he used to be, but Dragić still may be a valuable asset to a team looking for an experienced guard.
