Thunder Acquire Patty Mills, per Report

Editor’s note: July 2 at 2 p.m. ET: This story has been updated to reflect a recent report that Patty Mills has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder

The Nets are trading point guard Patty Mills to the Rockets to clear cap space, and Houston will then send Mills to the Thunder, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday afternoon.

Mills was previously believed to be headed through Houston to the Grizzlies as part of a deal to acquire Dillon Brooks, The Athletic’s Kelly Iko reported Saturday night.

After signing Mills to a one-year deal in the 2021-22 season, Brooklyn re-signed Mills to a two-year contract worth over $13 million total last offseason. Mills had a strong first season with the Nets, averaging 11.4 points per game over 81 games, but last year his production dipped to 6.2 points per game in 40 appearances.

With the trade, Brooklyn offloads Mills’s $6.8 million salary for 2023-24. Mills won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014 and will play for his fourth NBA team in Oklahoma City next season.

It’s not yet known what the Thunder are sending to Houston in return.
