Running back Phillip Tanner has signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Tuesday.
Tanner, 26, rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Cowboys (2011-13) before spending this offseason with the Colts, which waived him last week.

Tanner could compete for the Cowboys' third running back spot, behind DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar.
Tanner, who went undrafted out of Middle Tennessee State in 2011, is expected to receive a significant number of carries in Thursday night's preseason game against Denver.
