Philadelphia Eagles third-string quarterback Matt Barkley was targeted in a trade last week by the Houston Texans, according to Lance Zierlein of Sports Talk 790 in Houston.

The Texans instead traded for former New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett, receiving a conditional sixth-or seventh-round pick in 2016 in return.

Mallett will back up starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has a 27-49-1 career record with the St. Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans

Barkley was a fourth-round pick by the Eagles in the 4th round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He appeared in three games, completing 61 percent of his passes for 300 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions.
