Panthers place Brockel on IR; sign Dockery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers have placed fullback Richie Brockel on injured reserve with an ankle injury and signed cornerback James Dockery to take his spot on the 53-man roster.

The moves were announced Tuesday.

Brockel becomes the second Carolina fullback to be placed on injured reserve, although starter Mike Tolbert was given the ''designated to return'' tag and is eligible to play in late November.

Brockel's season, however, is over.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Dockery rejoins the Panthers after being released on Aug. 30 following training camp. Dockery has spent two of the last three seasons with Carolina and has played in 24 career games with two starts and 20 tackles.

The Panthers play the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday.
