Eagles trade Barkley to Cardinals, Tebow likely to make team
The Philadelphia Eagles have dealt quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals, potentially freeing up a spot for Tim Tebow, the team announced Friday.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer first reported the deal. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport suggested the move could indicate that Tebow sticks as the team's third quarterback. Tebow and Barkley had been battling in Eagles training camp behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Mark Sanchez.
NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal noted that the Eagles could still keep two quarterbacks. Rapoport added that the Eagles had been trying to deal Barkley for “years” and that his improvement in the preseason created a market for his services.
The deadline for teams to finalize their 53-man rosters is Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. -- Jeremy Woo
