The Houston Texans have released defensive tackle Louis Nix, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

The nose tackle missed the majority of the 2014 season after being placed on the injured reserve list due to a knee injury, but has started in all of the Texan's 2015 preseason games.

Nix was drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft out of Notre Dame.

The Texans signed nose tackle Vince Wilfork to a two year deal in March. Wilfork, 33, spent 11 seasons with the New England Patriots and has 351 tackles over the course of his career. The veteran reportedly worked with Nix to help him improve.

With Nix's release, Wilfork and rookie Christian Covington are slated to take his place.
