Man shot outside Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium after game dies
The man shot outside AT&T Stadium on Sunday died on Wednesday night, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Richard Sells, 43, was shot about two hours after the conclusion of Sunday’s game between the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys. He was taken to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he was taken off life support on Wednesday, according to a statement his sister posted on Facebook.
The shooter, 28-year-old Marvin Rodriguez, was arrested at the scene and was also taken to the hospital with a leg injury. Police believed he sustained the injury while trying to flee.
Police say Rodriguez held his gun to another man’s head before shooting Sells in the neck. Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegramreported that Rodriguez was “egged on” by the crowd to kill Sells.
Rodriguez is being held at Arlington jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the Associated Press reports.
Almost $9,000 has been donated to a GoFundMe page to support Sells’s fiancée, who is pregnant, and to help pay for medical expenses.
