The San Diego Chargers have released linebacker Donald Butler, he confirmed on Twitter.

Butler was due $4.65 million this season and had a cap hit of over $9 million, according to Spotrac.com. Butler signed a seven-year deal with the Chargers before the 2014 season. 

“It’s been an amazing ride,“ Butler wrote on Twitter. “To my teammates and fans who have supported me throughout the last [six] years I am forever appreciative and grateful.”

In 2015, Butler played in all 16 games, but ended the season as a backup. He recorded 43 total tackles and one forced fumble. In his career, Butler has played in 71 games, recording 373 tackles and seven sacks.
