Jeremy Chinn Follows Luvu to Commanders

Carolina watches another piece of its defense head north to Washington.

No surprise here, but safety/linebacker Jeremy Chinn is leaving the Carolina Panthers and plans to sign a one-year, $5.1M deal with the Washington Commanders, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

Former Panthers GM Marty Hurney drafted Chinn back in the second round in 2020. He is now an advisor for the organization after spending three years as the Executive vice president of football/player personnel.

Chinn's drop in usage came as a major surprise to many, including Chinn. He thought he would flourish in Ejiro Evero's defense but never established a role and only appeared in 286 defensive snaps on the season.

In four years with the Panthers, Chinn totaled 324 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, four sacks, and two picks. He finished the 2020 campaign as the runner-up to Chase Young for Defensive Rookie of the Year, a season in which he racked up 117 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
