The Atlanta Falcons will sign veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney, the team announced.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news. Freeney’s decision was reportedly down to the Falcons and Bengals. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports he will sign a one-year deal.

Freeney, 36, is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and spent last season with the Cardinals. In 14 career seasons, his first 11 with the Colts, Freeney has totaled 319 tackles, 119.5 sacks and 47 forced fumbles in 194 games. He led the NFL in sacks in 2004 after compiling a total of 16 in 16 games.

Freeney, who was also a key member of Indianapolis’ Super Bowl XLI winning team in 2006, recorded eight sacks in 11 games last year as a specialized pass rusher.
