Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher says if the season started now, rookie Jared Goff would be the team's No. 3 quarterback.

Goff was the No. 1 overall selection of the 2016 NFL draft. Fisher says second-year quarterback Sean Mannion would likely get the nod as the backup quarterback behind Case Keenum, though Goff is currently listed as the No. 2 quarterback on the Rams' depth chart.

"I think it's going to take a little bit more time," Fisher said, according to the Orange County Register. "That's not to say he can't be a (No. 2 quarterback) or start, but if we were starting right now, I'd probably have Sean as the two. Because it's all about being patient with him. He's not frustrated or anything. He took some hits. He got hit pretty hard last week, and Sunday was a tough day for him, which you guys didn't see. But he did everything he needed to."

Goff was unimpressive in the team's final preseason contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, going 6–16 for 67 yards with one touchdown and one interception. In three appearances this preseason, Goff completed 46% of his passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Rams start the regular season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 12.
