Insider Pegs Free-Agent QB as ‘The Answer’ for Jets After Aaron Rodgers Injury

Jets coach Robert Saleh made it clear on Tuesday that Zach Wilson will be the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season in the wake of Aaron Rodgers’s season-ending Achilles tear.

While New York is expected to entertain other quarterback options for depth purposes, it seems as if it’s Wilson’s job for the foreseeable future, which makes sense given his experience as the team’s starter in the past.

However ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, a Philadelphia-based reporter, believes another quarterback could be the answer for the Jets.

Nick Foles.

“I’ve got two words for you. Nick. Foles,” Paolantonio said on ESPN’s Get Up! on Wednesday morning. “Nick Foles is the answer. Nick Foles is the answer. He’s done it before. He’s won a Super Bowl. There’s a lot of attributes in Nick Foles that people like. He can come into that locker room. He can lead the team. He runs an RPO game. He’s a quick study. He gets the ball out of his hands quickly which mitigates a bad offensive line.”

The entire set was baffled by Paolantonio’s suggestion, but Mike Greenberg didn’t hate the idea because “it wouldn’t cost [the Jets] anything.”

Domonique Foxworth said that the fact that Foles “had a story and has done this before,” could make him an intriguing candidate.

At this juncture, Foles remains a free agent and the Jets are keeping their options open for who will join the roster alongside Wilson in the QB room. New York is reportedly not pursuing retired quarterback Tom Brady to the roster, nor is he interested.
