Matt Ryan Clarifies Whether He’s Interested in Signing With Jets
Matt Ryan seems to be enjoying his time in the broadcast booth, after all.
A day after a report emerged that the veteran quarterback was interested in joining the QB-needy Jets, Ryan is clarifying his stance. New York lost Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending Achilles injury, and Zach Wilson is playing at a historically bad rate as his replacement.
Ryan isn’t officially retired from the NFL, but he is not on an active roster this season while he’s working as an analyst for CBS. It seemed feasible that Ryan could be interested in playing again, because he specifically has stated he isn’t retired.
However, he cleared up the speculation Monday morning when speaking on CBS Sports HQ.
“No, not on my end,” Ryan said when asked whether he has any interest in joining the Jets. “To clear it up, obviously my agent is one of the best at what he does. Todd France is incredible. He wouldn’t be doing his job if he wasn’t looking into certain situations. But, he and I talked, [and I’ve] got no interest in doing that right now. I’m enjoying what I’m doing.”
Ryan started 12 games for the Colts last season, going 4–7–1 in that span. He threw for 3,057 yards with 14 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions.
The Jets have yet to sign another quarterback to their roster since Rodgers went down. Coach Robert Saleh said he remains confident in Wilson as the team’s starter, though.
