Saints’ Michael Thomas Refutes Report of Impending Release in Fiery Tweet

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas slammed reporter Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune Thursday afternoon after Duncan reported the team intends to release the veteran.

“Jeff Duncan is a h--,” Thomas posted on social media. “Trying to stay relevant so let’s speak on it. The Saints leak information to him to try to ruin players value but see I’m not broke so I can speak on it. He is broke so he need clicks. Go look at all his articles that never end up being true.”

Thomas is still a member of the Saints as of Thursday afternoon, but a potential release of the 31-year-old wideout wouldn’t come as a huge surprise. The former All-Pro has struggled to stay on the field in recent years since setting the NFL single-season record with 149 receptions in 2019. Since that season, he has appeared in just 20 total games.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas has struggled to stay healthy since a record-setting 2019 season.

Per Spotrac, if Thomas is on the roster on March 15, $119 million worth of bonus money becomes guaranteed.

Thomas likely still can be a valuable contributor, but he’s unlikely to be a team’s No. 1 wideout as he moves further and further away from his prime.

In his eight-year pro career, the former Ohio State star has recorded 565 receptions for 6,569 yards and 36 touchdowns.
