About midway through the second period, Athanasiou stole the puck off one Checker, then made a sweet toe-drag around another before roofing it backhand behind Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre.

Athanasiou is in his second year with the Griffins, though he played just two games last season after joining the team late. In 40 games this season entering Tuesday's action, the 20-year-old has racked up 26 points with 13 goals and 13 assists. Athanasiou was the No. 110 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft before spending several seasons in the OHL.

In 2013-14, the London, Ontario, native scored 95 points, fifth-most in the league.
