The Dallas Stars have signed defenseman John Klingberg to a seven-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4.25 million per season, Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The 22-year-old had a strong rookie season for the Stars, finishing with 11 goals and 29 assists. After undergoing hip surgery last summer, Klingberg started this season in the AHL, where he played 10 games before being called up to the Stars to begin his rookie campaign.

Klingberg could have become a restricted free agent on July 1.
