Trotz: Capitals G Braden Holtby (illness) will start on Friday
Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said he plans to start goalie Braden Holtby in Game 2 against the New York Islanders on Friday, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Holtby did not participate in Friday’s morning skate, and Trotz told the media that he is under the weather, but declined to give specifics on his illness. The Capitals recalled goalie Philipp Grubauer, who practiced with the starters on Friday.
Holtby made 23 saves and allowed three goals during Washington’s Game 1 loss on Wednesday.

During the regular season, the 25-year-old compiled a 41-20-10 record with a 2.22 goals against average as the Capitals earned the No. 2 seed in the Metropolitan Division.
