Connor McDavid Becomes Sixth NHL Player Ever to Reach 150 Points

Connor McDavid, the overwhelming favorite to once again win the Hart Trophy, joined elite NHL company in just in his just his eighth season with the Edmonton Oilers. The four-time Art Ross Trophy winner hit the 150-point mark against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

The Oilers star reached the milestone when he buried his 63rd goal of the season at the 18:16 mark of the first period, giving his club the 2–1 lead.

The NHL’s best center, who leads the league with 150 points, extends his point scoring streak to 14 consecutive games.

McDavid is an absolute lock to earn his third consecutive Art Ross Trophy, annually awarded to the player who leads the NHL in points at the end of the regular season. In picking up a goal and an assist through 20 minutes of action today, McDavid now holds a 27-point lead over teammate Leon Draisaitl (123).

The most recent player to surpass the 150-point mark in a single season was Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux in the 1995-96 season. The NHL’s eighth all-time points leader (1,723) posted 161 points in that season for the Penguins.

The great Wayne Gretzky owns the all-time single-season scoring record of 215 points set back in 1985-86 with the Oilers.

McDavid will have two more regular-season games after today (at Colorado, vs. San Jose) remaining to add to his impressive point total.
