San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is a finalist to succeed Joe Paterno as head coach at Penn State, Roman’s agent, Mike Harrison, told ESPN.

Harrison said that Roman interviewed for the position in November and is on the “short list” to be hired as head coach, according to ESPN. Harrison added that he expects to know if Roman will be hired in about a week.

According to ESPN, Penn State is also considering New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, and the two sides are expected to meet this week to try to work out a deal. Paterno was fired as head coach on November 10 amid the scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The team’s current defensive coordinator, Tom Bradley, was named interim head coach and today coached the Nittany Lions in their 30-14 loss to the Houston Cougars in the Ticketcity Bowl.
