The San Diego Chargers have fired defensive coordinator Greg Manusky after just one year on the job,  ESPN is reporting. Linebackers coach John Pagano will assume the role next season.

The Chargers hired Manusky from the San Francisco 49ers after last season's defensive coordinator, Ron Rivera, left to take the head coaching position with the Carolina Panthers.

Pagano has been with the team for 10 years, and linebackers' coach since 2005. "John has worked extremely hard and been very patient to get this opportunity," coach Norv Turner said in a statement Thursday, according to ESPN. "I'm excited about John's experience with this defense, his familiarity with our team and where we can go with his direction."
