The San Francisco 49ers are loaded at running back with starter Frank Gore and change of pace backs LaMichael James and Kendall Hunter.

When the team selected former South Carolina star Marcus Lattimore in the fourth round of the NFL Draft last month, the 49ers knew he might not be ready to start next season because he is coming off an ACL injury suffered.

Lattimore said he would be fine to sit out the entire upcoming season and rehab to get right for the 2014 season.

"I think that would be fine," Lattimore said to the Sacramento Bee. "Whatever happens, you know, these next three months will probably determine that. I'm just going to continue to keep working hard, and if I'm called upon, I feel like hopefully I'll be ready."
"We're going to slow down the aggressive physical things and make sure Marcus is 100 percent healthy before he goes out there on the field. If he doesn't play this year, then he doesn't play this year," said 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said.
