Flyers chairman Ed Snider calls team's effort 'pathetic'

Philadelphia Flyers chairman Ed Snider took his team to task after its 3-0 loss to the Devils on Thursday.

"The effort was pathetic," Snider told reporters on Friday. "We were losing all the battles along the boards. We can't continue to be a team that can't score. If we can't score, we can at least win the battles along the boards."

The Flyers, who fired head coach Peter Laviolette last month, are averaging a league-worst 1.47 goals per game, and, not surprisingly, are in last place in the Metropolitan Division.

"If I was the fans, I'd be booing myself, too," said 25-year-old team captain Claude Giroux, who hasn't scored this season and spoke with Snider after Thursday's game. "It's not acceptable. We're a better team than this. We've got to go and play the game and start winning them."

"I've never seen anything like this," Snider added. "We've had teams that have struggled. Sometimes we have bad goaltending, but we're scoring four goals a game and giving up five. I've never seen a team that can't score, particularly with the talent that we have."
