Report: Talks between Mets, Curtis Granderson intensify

Negotiations between the Mets and free-agent outfielder Curtis Granderson's representatives intensified late Tuesday, a source familiar with the dealings told Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

Though no deal is imminent, the Mets are offering a three-year deal. However, they may ultimately concede and guarantee a fourth year to Granderson, a three-time All Star who turns 33 in March.

It had been reported that Granderson was no longer in the Yankees' plans after four seasons in the Bronx, and that was further solidified by their signing of Jacoby Ellsbury on Tuesday.

Granderson met with Mets general manager Sandy Alderson on Sunday.

"We ate a nice meal, and it was great to enjoy some salmon," Granderson said about the meeting on a conference call regarding the players' union.

The Mets signed outfielder Chris Young to a one-year deal last week and are looking for more power from their outfielders. The Mets were 11th out of 15 National League teams in home runs last season.

Granderson would provide some pop, as he had back-to-back 40 home run seasons for the Yankees before he was limited to 60 games last season due to a broken forearm in spring training and a broken pinkie during the season.

A deal with Granderson would likely be the largest Alderson has given in four seasons as the Mets' GM. The current distinction belongs to former closer Frank Francisco, who was signed for $12 million over two years before the 2012 season.

In 10 major league seasons, Granderson has 217 home runs, 80 triples, and a .340 on-base percentage.
