A rare snow and ice storm has ground things to a halt in Atlanta, and that will include an NBA game on Wednesday.

The Hawks were scheduled to play host to the Pistons, but the game has been postponed "due to severe weather conditions in the Atlanta area," the team announced earlier in the day.

No makeup date has been set.

The Pistons were unable to travel to Atlanta following their game in Detroit on Tuesday, and the Hawks canceled their shootaround Wednesday morning.

Hundreds of students were stranded at city schools overnight, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed told reporters Wednesday morning, and the Georgia National Guard was in the process of rescuing motorists who were trapped in their cars all night on icy freeways.
